So far in this years World Cup, Virat Kohli has truly failed to find the form that we have come to know and expect from him. Two hundred and forty three ODI’s, forty-one centuries. That’s better than once every six innings. But for Kohli, he hasn’t passed 100 since the 3rd match of India’s 5 match series against Austarlia, were he scored 44 and 116 in the first two matches that India won, before knocking up an incredible 95 ball 123 in a losing cause. But since then, the nine ODI’s since, he has failed to get close to the magical century mark that we find ourselves using as a benchmark for batsman.
His form started to dip during the IPL, where he only passed 50 three times from 14 innings, compared to the 9 times that David Warner did in his fantastic campaign. He did score an even century against the Kolkata Knight Riders, but it was the inability to post the consistent scores above 50 that had some cricket analaysts in India worried his form was on the downward slide.
Fast forward to the World Cup, and although he has passed 50 on four occasions, he has failed to push towards a century. For a man who has done so easily, so many times to this point of his career, it is a worrying sign for the Indians as they head towards the semi-finals once more.
With the worrying form of MS Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan being withdrawn with injury, the Indian’s truly need someone to stand up with Rohit Sharma if they expect to hold the trophy at Lords.Without Kohli reversing his form, the Indian’s seem destined to falter as they heap too much pressure onto Rohit Sharma.
