Jason Roy leads off England after his man of the match performance

And just like that, England return to form and likely favourites to claim the World Cup. Winning the toss and electing to field, Bangladesh would live to rue that decision as our player to watch, Jason Roy, would go about smashing 153 off just 121 balls. He first combined with Jonny Bairstow for an 128-run partnership, before Jos Buttler (64 off 44) and Eoin Morgan (35 off 33) helped move the total past 300. Tail-enders Chris Woakes (18 off 8) and Liam Plunkett (27 off 9) perfectly closed out the innings as England put on 45 runs in the final 4 overs to finish 6 for 386. The Bangladeshi's never looked like dominating with the ball, all wickets bar Joe Roots were caught, with only Mehid Hasan Miraz and Mohammad Saifuddin picking up two wickets, and Mashrafe Mortaza and Mustafizur Rahman picking up one each. The innings belonged to Roy, who smashed 14-fours and 5-sixes in his 121 ball innings, with no bowler spared punishment as England looked on track for a mammoth score from early on in the innings. In reply, star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan gallantly led a resistance push from the Bangladeshis, top scoring with just over a run a ball 121. His innings was more dictate by stroke play rather than brash boundary hitting, with only a single six to join his 12-fours. Mushfiqur Rahim scored 44, but apart from that Al Hasan never got the support the Bangladeshi's needed, with Ben Stokes (3/23 off 6) and Jofra Archer (3/29 off 8.5) doing the bulk of the damage as Bangladesh we're bowled out for 280, a mere 106 runs short of their target. THE STAR

No doubt about it, Jason Roy is our boy!

Jason Roy was predicted to go big, and go big he did. 153 runs off just 121 balls. 14 fours, 5 sixes, and being dismissed in the 35th over leaves you wondering did he leave a double century out there. England now have three batsman who have passed 100 in this tournament, and are back on track to claim their first World Cup. THE MOMENT

Adil Rashid celebrates Mohammad Mithun's wicket

Bangladesh were tracking nicely while Al Hasan and Rahim were at the crease together, combining for a 106 run stand. Needing to break the partnership and move the game back into Englands favour, Liam Plunkett first dismissed Rahim for 44, and Adil Rashid then removed Mohammad Mithun just 4 balls later. It was a pivotal moment that halted the resistance of the Bangladeshis.

THE FAILURE

You can pinpoint the exact moment that Bangladesh lost the game.

Comprehensively outplayed, it would be hard to single out one particular player for their performances, so it has to come down to Mashrafe Mortaza's insane decision to bowl first on a great batting wicket. Mortaza's decision to bowl first needed to be back up by actions, but the right-arm fast bowler failed to make early impacts as England cruised out to 128 before the first wicket fell. By then, the innings was moving firmly in England's favour and the decision to bowl first was backfiring.

WHAT NEXT - England take on the West Indies in what could be a cracker of a match on Friday, whilst Bangladesh will be favourites to bounce back against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. TONIGHT - India take on Australia from The Oval

Just a couple of blokes with their take on the day of cricket.

The nightwatchman is for those budding cricket analysts, commentators, writers and bloggers to have their opportunity to get their written pieces more audience. Many of us area amateur writers with our own careers and family life taking up most of our days, however, we have always found time to write about the pressing issues in cricket that matter most to us, after dark, well after play. This is why we are the nightwatchman.
